Easy, Layered Jello Shots

For St. Patrick’s Day, my friend, Oakley, hosted a little get together. I’m usually at a loss for what to bring to get-togethers like this, but I had the stroke of genius to keep things boozy and make Irish Flag Jello Shots! After some research and experimentation, I came up with the following recipe for perfect jello shots!

Keep in mind that you can make any color or flavor. I used a layer of lime jello, white jello (similar to the birthday cake variation below), and orange jello, and I used whipped vodka for all three.

Summary: Fancied up jello shots made easy


  • 3oz Jello Packet
  • 1 Cup Boiling Water
  • 1 Cup Flavored Vodka, Chilled (I used Pinnacle Whipped)


  1. Boil water/water mixture
  2. Dissolve Jello or Knox packets into boiled mixture
  3. Remove from heat
  4. Add chilled vodka or vodka & milk
  5. Measure 1.5 tbsp of finished jello mix into each shot cup
  6. Chill in the freezer for 30-45 minutes
  7. Repeat with each layer

Quick notes

  • Prepare each jello mixture ONLY when you’re ready to pour it
  • If you want to skip out on layers altogether, double the recipes and don’t worry about repeating.
  • Once you’ve added the final layer, or if you’re only doing one flavor, chill the jello in the fridge, NOT the freezer.


The following are a few ingredient lists for flavor variations I’m particularly fond of, suitable for individual layers. Keep in mind that the alcohol is always the cooling agent.

Birthday Cake (this will turn out white!)

  • 2 envelopes Knox gelatine
  • 3/4 Cup Boiled Water
  • 1/2 Cup Cream De Coco
  • 3/4 Cup Cake Vodka
  • 1/4 Cup Milk


  • Orange Jello Packet
  • 1 Cup Boiled Water
  • 1 Cup Whipped, Vanilla, or Cake Vodka

Cadillac Margarita:

  • Lime Jello Packet
  • 1 Cup Boiled Water
  • 3/4 Cup Tequila
  • 1/4 Cup Gran Marnier

Pina Colada:

  • Pineapple Jello Packet
  • 1 Cup Boiled Water
  • 1 Cup Coconut Rum

Pina Colada, Variation:

  • Pineapple Jello Packet
  • 3/4 Cup Boiled Water
  • 1/2 Cup Cream De Coco
  • 3/4 Cup Coconut Rum
  • 1/4 Cup Milk

The possibilities are endless. Go wild!

    I am making blue & yellow layered shots (Milwaukee Brewers themed) so that will be a Blue Raspberry & Lemon flavor combination – what alcohol would you suggest I use? I have never made jello shots before and I am more of a beer drinker rather than cocktails so I am not sure what to pick. Thanks!

      Yum! I personally like the idea of raspberry vodka for this, so the lemon layer would be more like a raspberry lemonade. You can also use lemon vodka (usually under the name “citron”) for both to similar effect, BUT it might be a little more harsh.

      For me, choosing a midceal specialty is easy. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to work as a Dermatologist Tech prior to moving to Alaska. What an amazing field! No two cases are the same and more than one type of procedure can be performed in a day. Working for a dermatologist provides the benefits of both a private office setting and hours along with the experience of surgeries and unique treatments. Cyst removals and cancer treatments became the most interesting procedures to me and I can not wait to get back into the field!There are not many positions or specialties I would turn down when it comes to the midceal field. If I had to pick one, however, it would have to be gynecology. Why would this be the field I turn down? I am honestly not sure. I must be lacking the gene the would cause me to be interested in the subject! For whatever reason I would choose to work anywhere else before choosing gynecology. Specialty clinics are like sushi I guess. How do you know you don’t like it if you’ve never tried it?!

      I have not really cheson what kind of specialists I would like to work under, but I do believe that it would be fun to work in a Psychiatrist’s office. I originally was going for my B.A. in Psychology, but switched. There are so many to choose from that sound absolutely interesting. Such as working under an Internist or going simple and working under a Family practitioner. Even Gerontologist sounds like fun. I love the “aging population” and they have stories and much to teach.For the moment I am going to take this degree one step at a time and try to find the place that fits me best.

      Wow, I think you will be a great OB. It seems like you have a real love for children, faimeils, and people in general. Sad to say that those qualities are rare traits in todays world. I believe not just anyone should be in just any job because you could be in a job that you hate and end up making everyone who comes in contact with you at work miserable. You have the joy and care to be great at your job and effect those you will be working around not only by your knowledge , but by your love for what you do.

    The Concordia Lutheran Church Men’s Club will once again be selling Christmas trees and wrtahes this year. The tree lot is located at the Church-School, 4245 Lake Avenue. Christmas tree sales will begin on Friday, November 23rd. The lot will be open 12:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily, except Saturday mornings, when it opens at 9:00 a.m. The proceeds from this fund raiser are used to support various projects and functions of the Concordia Church and school. A selection can be made from Scotch Pine, White Pine, Douglas Fir, Fraser Fir, and Blue Spruce. These trees were just cut a couple of weeks ago. Please come see how fresh they are. Decorated and undecorated wrtahes are also available. Your patronage would be greatly appreciated.
