Week 14: Cow Stank and Sisterhood.

August 8, 2010 · 0 comments

These last few weeks have been crazy! Last weekend, I didn’t do my wonderful weekend update because I was a headless chicken, mostly because my plans were altered by an emergency trip to Bakersfield and consequently, my first prego meltdown.

See, my dad was sent to Bakersfield for work and as soon as he arrived at his hotel, he realized that he left his wallet at home.

Seriously. HOW DO YOU NOT NOTICE THIS UNTIL YOU’RE 3 1/2 HOURS AWAY?!

So he calls me at 4:30pm. I’m almost done with work and I’m exhausted from a long week and from being a baby factory, and I’m seriously looking forward to throwing on my jam jams and watching Jeopardy. He informs me about his wallet. I’m thinking ohcrap. ohcrap. ohcrap. Don’t say it. Don’t say it.

Then he says it.

“I need you to bring [my wallet] to me.”

I was seriously hoping I could just overnight that ish, but he had an appointment early in the morning, and according to the Twitterverse it was too late to have it overnighted anyway.

So I finish up at the office thinking awfully mean things like how much I want to throw his wallet at his head and I finally finish up at work, still fuming. I get into the car and it dawns on me that the drive to Bakersfield from Huntington Beach is a really long, cow stanktacular drive plus I’m tired. At this moment, I have NO idea how I’ll stay awake to make the whole drive, so I do what any prego chick would do.

I started crying.

I started crying like a 3 year old who doesn’t want a nap, except I remembered what I was crying about 10 minutes later. Which was also when I finally pulled myself together enough to ask my sister to come with me.

And you guys, I don’t think I’ve mentioned how awesome my sister is, but my sister is awesome. Like, the best person ever. I’m the luckiest person alive for having the sister I do and you’re all missing out, so be jealous.

Anyway, she drove with me and kept me awake and amused and made me drink like a gallon of water and a fruit salad. And eat tic tacs to overwhelm the cow stank.

Long story short, it wasn’t a bad drive and I got to crash as soon as we got there. On top of that, the drive back in the morning was beautiful and sunny with a side of rolling hills and farms and vegetation. Until we hit LA, of course. Even so, it was a nice reminder that there’s more to CA than suburbs and smog.

By the way, you guys, California is such a beautiful place. Do yourselves a favor, and take a drive up the Central Coast and do the whole tourist thing and see the sights. It’s amazing.

Just don’t be this guy.
