#Mamavation Monday: If I’m In the Kitchen, You’re Not

September 6, 2010 · 14 comments

This week. My oh my this week. Long story short, I skipped 1/2 of my workouts, deep fried a variety of wontons and potstickers (though by the time I finished cooking, I had no interest in eating), and had a generally bad week.

See, my whole thing is that I hit the gym or pavement before I start my day because I’m tired by the time I get home from work and I have to cook on top of that. This week, I was tired both before and after. I slacked. I slacked hard. See, instead of waking up at multiple times throughout the night, I’ve started waking up at 5 am. Every day. My alarm is set for 6, and you wouldn’t think that an hour makes THAT much of a difference.

Au contraire.

That snooze button and I have become embarrassingly well acquainted. Frankly, I need to disable it at this point.

So yeah, my sleep schedule is off, therefore my workout schedule is off, therefore I feel like a total lethargic mess and I just want to get off my butt!! Fortunately, between walking Toby to the vet, yoga, and shopping in the Fashion District, I did at least get back into gear this weekend.

I’m also having a hard time gathering the motivation to cook frequently because I just want to put my feet up and tune out for a little while when I get home from work. However, mama’s gotta eat, and frankly, eating out racks up the dollas quickly. So I cook.

That and I hate having other people in the kitchen doing nothing but complaining. I mean, if you can see that I have a dish of 50 wrapped/to-be-stored potstickers AND a pot of wonton soup going, you really don’t have to tell me you’re starving. Seriously. It’ll be done momentarily unless you want to eat salmonella turkey wontons.

Cough cough dad cough.

Cough.

That said, I’ve learned that unless you’re rubbing my shoulders, asking what you can do to help or continuing a light conversation, stay out of the damn kitchen when I’m cooking.

I’d say it’s a hormonal pregnancy thing, but it’s not. I just feel hormonally emboldened enough to say it.

So anyway, cooking. It’s been difficult and I’ll admit that this week included breakfast for dinner and happy hour bar food with the rest of the office.

But man were those wings good! And the place had a salad bar, and you know I was all over that.

Anyway, tough week, but I’m looking forward to enjoying the rest of my day off.

Seriously. Thank goodness for Labor Day. Don’t know what I’d do with myself if I didn’t just have a day to do nothing.

This week:

1. Cook 4/5 nights

2. Get back on schedule with workouts

3. Keep up on fruits & veggies

4. Disable snooze.

I feel ya girl. I started putting up the baby gate in an effort to keep everyone from hovering while I am fixing something to eat! I think you have got your goals set this week and I am excited to hear you tell us next week that you did well! Have a great day today!

I couldn’t stand people around me when preparing food, and I couldn’t stand people around me while I was eating. Maybe I just couldn’t stand people while I was pregnant lol :) xo

You need to take it easy, listen to your body. The first trimester I was SOOOO tired. In bed by like 8 every night. EXHAUSTED. It’s good to try to be a fit mama for sure, but just balance it.

Wontons sound awesome!!!

I can’t stand people hoovering over me in the kitchen either and, I’m not pregnant. Lol.
The week is over, you can start new. Have you tried maybe doing a menu plan that you have to stick to. Might make cooking a bit easier.
Good luck this week!

Maybe cooking up a big meal that you can reheat throughout the week would help?

And I remember being EXHAUSTED during my pregnancy so I just went with it. Listen to your body, I’m sure you already know how hectic your life will become once the baby arrives.

Best of luck to you this week!

I had so much trouble cooking when I was pregnant. I would smell the smells and then I couldn’t eat. Oh, dear it takes me back. Let’s hope I get ONE more shot at it….next year…if I play my cards right. XXOO

I detest someone standing over me in the kitchen! I have been letting my 4 year old “help” but that’s it. He doesn’t tell me what to do or “hover” at least :-)

Have a great week

Well, I don’t like a commentary in the kitchen either, but now there’s two little “hungry” gremlins at my feet! Meal time is definitely somewhat challenging when the girls are starving and I’m trying to cook.

Good luck getting back on track this week! Can’t wait to meet the new little one. :)

Hi, my name is Pam and I’m a snooze abuser. I do it every single morning. I’m just not a morning person. Enjoy your holiday!

I could NOT cook when I was preggo. The smells of cooked anything made my gag. You could try cooking a bigger meal so that you have leftovers the next night. Then you just have to reheat and eat. Not as good as freshly prepared but it will give you a rest every other night.

I needed to disable the snooze button when I was pregnant too. But I also was not in the habit of exercising at that point in my life. I was just tired.

Great goals for the week, girl!! You can do it!
