#Mamavation Monday: Looking Forward

I’ve realized that I have a lot to look forward to this year. I finally get to meet my baby-man, I’m going back to school in the fall, and of course, I’m very excited to get back into shape.

Over the weekend, I was SUPER short of breath and it drove me crazy. I mean, just rolling myself out of bed is becoming a feat of strength and it’s really getting old. I miss the feeling I got after going for a jog and doing strength training – that accomplished, re-energized sweatiness that comes only after getting pumped full of endorphins and adrenaline, and that soreness the next day that says “you might hate yourself a little now, but you’re TOTALLY doing it right.” I miss it SO so very much.

I was reminded of all this because Babydaddy asked me what I want for my birthday and I couldn’t think of anything. Everything I’ve wanted has been for Cameron, the nursery or general nesting purposes, but now that those needs are all met, I’m left with a couple weeks to think of things for just me.

MEEEEEE!!!

Just kidding. But seriously, the only things I can think of JUST for me are to get back into shape post baby, and I know it’ll be quite a while until I can go all out.

Seriously, I feel like working out is like crack and I’m jonesing for a serious hit. I think labor will probably be a good workout, though, right?

Otherwise, all’s well. Uncomfortable because my gall bladder hates babies, but finding ways to make myself comfortable, starting to feel more ready for CamBam and generally content with the exception of not being able to work out (though nesting has certainly filled a void).

Now as it’s a new year, this is usually where I’d set up fitness goals and whatnot. However, I think I’ll resolve to set goals incrementally based on what I feel is feasible. I’m not sure if I’m going to have any curveballs thrown my way in birth, I’ll be breastfeeding, and who knows what else may happen in the meantime? Ultimately, though, I’d like to get back down to 115 lbs, run a 5K and get back into practicing yoga at least twice a week.

So I’m looking forward to a lot this year. What are you looking forward to?

  1. If you’re anything like me, labor will be a shockingly good workout. I know you’re eager to get back out there, but remember to take it super slowly in the beginning because the body can take a while to bounce back fully. Congrats on the impending birth, can’t wait to see baby pics!

I felt that I wanted to be nice to myself, because this probably will be the last time for a while. Once again, just make yourself as comfortable as you can

  3. Take the me time now. I am having my 4th and I am wondering where me time went, lol. Every labor is different, so hopefully things will be uneventful and hopefully as close to your plan as possible. Just be prepared for the unexpected and the nursing helping you more than you would like sometimes, lol.

Good luck with the shortness of breath and gallbladder issues.

  4. Take good care of yourself or you won’t be in any position to take care of anyone/ anything else :)

Can’t say that labor/ delivery was a good workout for me… didn’t last long :)

Just keep listening to your body and you’ll know how hard you can push yourself :)

  5. Sounds like you have a lot planned! Enjoy all the calm moments… prenatal yoga, pilates or exercise. Your life will take on a whole new crazy with the baby. Then you might just be jonesing for some sleep.

Enjoy your nesting. I must have organized and reorganized for weeks with my first. I should have been walking and exercising.

You will do awesome with your post-baby shape up! Sounds like mentally you are already there. Have a great week and Happy New Year.

enjoy this time right now trust me you will be so happy to have your little one, but there will be a time you wonder if there is a clam after the strom know we are all here for ya!

  7. I just wish I had more hours in the day! I love Yoga but it’s hard to fit in a class into my schedule. Sounds like you have some great goals this year! Can’t wait to read more. I’ve got some 5Ks lined up too.

If you have any gallbladder questions at all, I’m your woman!

Also, a friend of mine said you totallllllly need to get satin sheets so you can slippity-slide out of bed in your 9th month. Totally worth a stop by Ross or Marshalls. I’m very happy for you!

  9. Hang in there! Little Man will be here soon! Labor will be a great workout, but because you’ve been taking care of yourself, you’ll be fine. Here’s to a fabulous 2011!

Sounds good! You have a lot of goals for after your son is born! It’s definitely different having a baby, and you need to kind of adjust with the post-partum period and nursing. My doula said don’t even think about changing your body for 6 months. Too much going on with it kind of getting back to where it was pre-pregnancy, but I was also pretty overweight and not active, unlike you!

When I was reading your description of the high after a workout, I was like, yep, that’s birth!! Ha ha.
