Hello hello and happy Monday!
In the last few weeks, I’ve talked a lot about what I’m doing to get and stay in shape. Now I’m at the point where I have a gameplan, I know the end goal and I’m actively working on following through with both.
Ho..ly God. It’s so not as easy as it sounds. Yes, it’s simple, but when empanadas are calling your name, they’re very difficult to turn down. Seriously. There is no sad puppy face worse than an empanada denied.
Except a legitimately sad puppy.
But anyway, I was down for the count for most of last week so I was sustaining myself mostly on veggie soups, chamomile tea and throat lozenges. What’s worse is I couldn’t do much in the way of working out. Seriously, I had such a horrible cold – shortness of breath, complete blockage AND a leaky faucet on my face, plus a painful, goose-honk cough. Not fun at all BUT thank God Tylenol Cold is prego safe. However, I did manage to keep things balanced by mixing it up with lots of lean proteins and super runny oatmeal. I even (successfully) made egg drop/egg flower soup!
You guys.. that is one hella difficult soup to make, and I have to give myself a shoutout for not botching it on the first try. Especially because it was the last egg in the fridge.
Holla!
Anyway, cooking has helped SO much in keeping my diet in check. I’m so much more aware of what I’m eating and when I take the time to work hard on preparing something, I feel SO much more satisfied when I’m eating it and I take more time to truly savor my work. It’s really satisfying, and while all the feminists out there will probably disown me, I think the housewives of the 50′s may have been onto something. Honestly, I think it’s fair to say that the prepared family dinner is a lovely concept and I’m very much enjoying it right now.
However, I think any other mothers will be able to attest that I can just give it 6 months and my kitchen will be a ghost town.
Anywayyyy, by the numbers: at my 16th week of pregnancy, I weigh 132 lbs, which is 1 lb more than last week and 5 lbs less than I was at the start of my pregnancy.
Also morning/all-freaking-day sickness is a natural apetite suppressant, y’all. I do not recommend it by any means.
Baby is healthy and so am I (keep an eye out for an update with the latest pictures of Bugomatic and the scoop on last weeks OB [dis]appointment).
Finally, I’m still not showing much, which I guess is pretty normal for this part of the 2nd trimester. I mean, if you didn’t know me prior, you’d probably think I’d just been overdoing it on the grilled cheese. However, the bump is getting there and I’m actually really looking forward to seeing more of it.
So that’s it for me! Congratulations to sista of the week, Kimberly (@christlikemommy on Twitter) – she’s made HUGE strides in meeting her goals, PLUS she’s just a complete sweetheart. So good work and lots of love – I can’t wait to read about everyone’s successes from this week!

Good job on the soup :) Most of all great job taking such good care of yourself while you were sick. I totally understand and get you on the cooking. I love and enjoy making healthy meals for my family and then savoring each bite.
Hope you are feeling much better this week.
My preggo belly didn’t show until close to 20 weeks. I just looked like I’d spent the last 4 months celebrating Octoberfest. You’ll love it when the bump looks like a bump. Enjoy it, show it off, make it look cute :)
Glad you were able to get through that bout of illness. It’s never fun but when you’re preggo, it’s downright awful!
Have a great week!
I’ve tried that egg drop soup and I totally botched it. I’m impressed. Sorry about your cold. I always get sick when I’m preggo with colds too. Very excited to track your progression!
Holla! Way to go with the egg drop soup! Props to you for even trying such a difficult soup! Sorry to hear about the cold, but it sounds like you managed through it very well! Looking forward to more posts!
I caught like one flu/cold when I was preggo and it was more annoying than anything. I joined Mamavation when I was pregnant to basically keep myself in check since I felt a need to be uber healthy for a home birth. Be gentle with yourself as you are on the mend and enjoy the secret time with your bump before it becomes apparent to the rest of the world.
Sorry to hear you weren’t well this week…but Congratulations! Another preggo Sista!!
There must be something in the water… HA!
Haha, right? I think it might be contagious – it seems like there was suddenly a rash of pregos when I joined. My bad!
Sorry to hear that you were sick. I’m fighting a bacterial infection myself and I’m making the best of it. I LOVE egg drop soup! I think I may just make some to go with my dinner.
You know, I didn’t start showing until I was about 7mo pregnant. But it was an instant WHABAM! effect and I have the stretch marks to prove it. LOL. Not trying to scare ya…just sharing my experience. Sounds like you’re doing a fabulous job. Keep it up!!
So sorry you weren’t feeling well last week :( Scarlet fever ran thru our house, starting with my three year old niece, then both of my parents and ending with me. Not fun! Props for taking the time to still cook your food and try your best while you weren’t feeling at your greatest! I am totally with you on the cooking thing :) I’m not that great at it yet, but I’m working on it. I love to cook and recently started looking into it more and more :) Looking forward to hearing about your progress next week!
