This weekend was the Mamavation Virtual 5K, and I’ll start by saying that it’s such a cool idea and I really enjoyed it. The idea of having these virtual 5ks once a month is fantastic, too.
That said, I was disappointed by my personal performance. I haven’t run that late in the morning (late being 8am! wtf!?) this summer. Usually, I run around sunset when the sea breeze is good and strong, and the sun is barely visible. So about 10 minutes into my 5K run, just as I hit the open trail in the wetlands, I just felt radiating heat and I just had no idea how much it would wear me down. I mean, it really was such a shock to my system, so I either need to train in those conditions or I need to stick to early morning/late afternoon runs.
That said, I finished the 5K in 35 min 59 sec.
Looking like this:

The instagram filter may not do me any favors, but as you can see, I tend to get VERY red when I go running. Anyone else get super red in the face? It’s kind of embarrassing, but it’s kind of a badge of honor.
Anyway, I’m still doing the Surf City Run tomorrow WITH Cameron, and the stroller run starts at 8:15am! The route is shaded for the most part, though, so I’m hoping that will help. May also help to NOT wear running leggings. Maybe. Can’t be worse than actually marching in the parade that follows (while carrying & playing drums, no less), though!
I mentioned it on my facebook, but I have some VERY exciting things in the works, and I’ll really need your help/advice/ideas, so keep a lookout on Thursday or subscribe!
In the meantime, have a very safe and happy 4th of July!

Lmbo!!!!!!! You crack me up!!!!! With that said..it is hard to train in those conditions. I don’t know much different here in Oklahoma. I’m constantly playing the “what’s the temperature now” game with my phone so I don’t burn up when I go run.
Also…the picture you paint with the sea breeze….I’m there!!! :-) got room for 5 of us? (just kidding!!)
How did your other 5k go?
congrats on doing the 5k good luck with your goals hope that this week goes well for you
I so understand the heat. It’s awful down here. Great job getting it done!!!
